Professor Daw-Tung Lin received his B.S. degree in Control Engineering from National Chiao-Tung University, Hsin Chu, Taiwan, in 1985, and M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Electrical Engineering from the University of Maryland at College Park, Maryland, U.S.A., in 1990 and 1994, respectively. 

From 2011 to 2015, he served as the Dean of Academic Affairs of National Taipei University, Taiwan. In this role, he led the strategies development along with faculty members and administrators to improve  faculty teaching excellence and student learning assurance. While helping to steward academic programs already underway, he created and supported growing number of industrial partnerships and education opportunities. He oversaw the University Teaching Excellence Program, which awarded over NT$60,000,000 grant each year to provide faculty and students necessary funds and assistance on teaching improvement, assurance of learning, innovation and entrepreneurship integration, global career navigation, interdisciplinary professional elite developing, holistic thinking and action cultivation, and global mobility and collaborations.

Professor Lin joined the National Taipei University since 2005, where he became a tenured Professor of computer science and information engineering in 2009. He served as the Chairperson of the Department of Computer Science and Information Engineering from 2006 to 2009, the Director of the Graduate Institute of Communication Engineering from 2010 to 2011, the Acting President from 2016 to 2017, and Vice President for Academics and Research from 2015 to 2017. 

Prior to serving at the National Taipei University, Professor Lin served as the Director of the Computer Center at Chung Hua University from 2001 to 2003, and as the Dean of the College of Engineering from 2003 to 2005. 

Professor Lin is a senior member of IEEE. He has been a regular contributor to the research in computer vision and image processing. His research interests include image processing, computer vision, pattern recognition, and intelligent surveillance.



The Intelligent Multimedia System Laboratory at National Taipei University focuses on the research topics related to computer vision applications, deep learning architecture developments, pattern recognition, and interactive multimedia applications. We also have tight linkage with industry and work on several academic-industrial collaboration projects. This allows for the seamless merging of theory and practice; students are able to see firsthand the state-of-the-art technologies and implementation in the industry.
